  • What types of support are available through OSP?

OSP offers two types of services to best meet your needs and preferences:

Self-led resources guided by a coach or clinician:

    • BounceBack is a program that focuses on building coping skills through workbooks and telephone calls with a trained coach. It also includes the use of online videos.
    • Internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy is a program delivered online, guided by a professional therapist to work through modules,  complete readings, and exercises, and learn coping  and resilience skills.

    Individual or group cognitive-behavioural therapy:

This includes in-person or virtual sessions with a clinician in a one-on-one or group format.

All services in OSP are based on cognitive-behavioural therapy approaches. Cognitive-behavioural therapy teaches people practical skills and techniques to change the patterns of behaviour and thinking. This can lead to better mental health and the ability to cope with difficult emotions and situations. OSP is also a stepped care program. This means that most people will begin with the self-led resources and will move to individual or group therapy if they need more support. While participating in the service your progress will be monitored regularly. This will help ensure the service meets your needs and changes can be made, if needed.

Participation in the program will require your time to attend sessions and complete readings or homework between sessions. The amount of time needed to participate varies depending on the service and will fluctuate from person to person.

  • What is Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive-behavioural therapy(CBT) teaches people practical skills and techniques to change the patterns of behaviour and thinking. This can lead to better mental health and the ability to cope with difficult emotions and situations.

CBT teaches practical lifelong skills such as:

    • Being more aware of the impact your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs have on your emotional and behavioural reactions
    • Identifying and changing thinking patterns that may be negative, inaccurate and contribute to your depression or anxiety
    • Changing unhelpful behaviours such as avoidance, and using problem solving skills to manage challenging situations.
  • Where are OSP services provided?

OSP services are coordinated by 10 organizations across the province. Each of these organizations works with different community-based organizations across their network to offer services to people as close to home as possible.

  • How do I register for OSP?

To participate in the program, you must be 18 years of age or older, and have concerns that are related to depression or an anxiety-related disorder. In some regions you can also refer yourself to the program. Self-referral is available through OSP Central North. To sign up, click here

OSP is not suitable for everyone. Some people may have  complex needs that cannot be met by the program. Others may have concerns that are outside the scope of the program, such as severe eating disorders or dementia. In these cases, the OSP team will try to identify services within your local area that can better support you.

Services may be available in a variety of languages  depending on the network. Please contact your local network to learn what is available.

  • What happens after the referral is submitted?

Once the online referral form is submitted, the client will be sent two additional questionnaires (Patient Health Questionnaire PHQ-9 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment GAD-7) via email to complete.

Once these are completed, the client will then be contacted by telephone or email to gather additional information for screening purposes. If, following that screening, it is determined that OSP may be appropriate, the client will be booked an appointment for a Clinical Intake and Triage assessment.

The assessment will determine which program is a good fit for the clients' needs and provides the best starting point. The client's status will be shared with the referring provider and, if OSP cannot meet the client's needs,

then more appropriate services will be recommended, if possible.
